Munay is a life style brand that I have worked with over the past few years.

A small female forward business that supports and uplifts the community, promotes local product and share the joy of yoga with as many communities as possible

The photography brief was to capture the new product range that was being launched as well as how it would be used everyday.

After scouting various venues that would provide muted natural light that would speak to the brands aesthetic, we settled on a local yoga studio. Every element for the photo shoot was considered from styling outfits, accessories, models and postures.

Images are being used for promotion, website and social media

RESTAURANT PHOTOGRAPHY - BASALT X CANDICE PHILLIP

One of my favourite restaurants to photograph in Johannesburg is the BASALT restaurant at THE PEECH HOTEL.

Vicky and James Peech had the brainchild to run a series of pop up restaurant activations during the height of the Coronavirus – bringing a much needed boost to the local restaurant industry. Providing a space where loyal followers could support their favourite establishments and getting chefs into their favourite spaces – namely the kitchen and running a service.

One of the biggest treats was getting Candice Phillip ex Greys at the SAXON  in for what was to become a regular fixture at BASALT.

The set menu was suitably dark and sumptuous, pairing with the BASALT atmosphere perfectly.

I was invited to shoot during one of their team tastings to promote the menu. The precision and creativity of the menu was a real treat to shoot. Having shot their a few times, I am used to the light and it gave us an opportunity to play with around with how we wanted to present the menu.

Candice is a consummate chef so the shoot did not require any styling- i got to play with light and shoot.

RESTAURANT PHOTOGRAPHY - BRIK CAFE, ROSEBANK - JOHANNESBURG

With the ethos of consciously curated, locally sourced, proactively cooked, coming in to photograph the new menu at BRIK café was an easy decision to make.

The café with its fire-engine red retro brick exterior situated rather aptly at the Rosebank Firestation, is beautifully designed supporting creators such as KILN ceramics and range of other food producers.

I have worked with Sasha for a number of years with her amazing catering on various events and this café  is her on a plate. Gracious hospitality with a considered menu and amazing coffee.

Photography session at restaurants can be a challenge trying to juggle a working business, available natural light (massive set ups are generally a no) and the space that you can work in.

BRIK, however was a real treat – the new summer sandwich menu was shot in natural light.
